Rapper 6ix9ine aka Tekashi69 has been somewhat quiet since his arrest but this doesn’t seem to be reflected in his radio spins.
Since his arrest in November, more details have come to light about his connections to organized crime. In January, he pleaded guilty to charges involving racketeering, illegal firearms possession, and aiding in attempted murder as part of the violent Trey Nine gang.
The 22-year old rapper’s single “BEBE” was about to fade out in terms of radio airplay, right until 6ix9ine was arrested which brought massive media attention. We took a closer look at the airplay activity on the track, and it seems to have turned around as the case has evolved.
In fact, according to WARM’s global radio airplay numbers, the rapper has almost doubled his daily plays from mid-December to mid-January. Since December, “BEBE” has re-expanded, especially in Mexico and South America. We’ll continue to monitor the worldwide airplay trends as they evolve.
6ix9ine has previously collaborated with fellow rapper Nicki Minaj on the single “Fefe”, which gained worldwide success, peaking at number three on the Hot 100. He released his debut album, Dummy Boy in November 2018.
